i certainly believe him people fainted, especially if this story was told to conservative americans (who, for some reason, find it just fine and not shocking to go hunting, or even worse, breed animals for being hunted, and then shoot them). at least every once in a while they shoot their hunting pals in the face, or, if they’re on the other side of the gun barrel, get shot in the face. poetic justice.

having a shortened gut (for other reasons altogether), i guess it was easier for you to relate to some aspects of the story/descriptions.

for me, and i am not shocked very easily, certainly less by written stories (despite having a very vivid imagination), it did delay dinner, probably for the next couple of hours.
